Choose a person to profile. Shoot a package of three photos – a long, a medium and a close-up – that help us understand who this person is, what they do, where they do it and why we should care about them.
This will become your multimedia story, keep that in mind as you choose your subject. You will need to go back five or six times, for images and audio, between now and the end of the semester. Make sure your subject does something interesting in good light – don’t make this harder than it needs to be by fighting the light.
Think about Al Tompkins’ list of things people care about: family, money, health, safety, community. Your story needs to hit on at least one of those – if it doesn’t, you’ll probably be in trouble.
